The 2022 Explorer comes in eight different trim levels. Mileage on the base Explorer begins at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The other trim levels include the Explorer XLT, the ST-Line, the Timberline, the Limited, the ST, and the Ranch. The trim levels above the base level come standard with Ford's dynamic Terrain Management System that allows you to change driving modes with the use of a center console dial.

Other trims, such as the Explorer Limited and the Platinum, have the option to upgrade to a 3.3-liter hybrid option that provides enough power to tow up to 5,000 pounds and is fully capable of off-road driving.

The Explorer comes with Ford's Terrain Management System. The system allows drivers in 2-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive to quickly switch driving modes for optimal performance. The Explorer features a dynamic sound system that includes a 12-speaker B&O Sound System. The Explorer includes other features, such as the SiriusXM satellite radio system. The Explorer has climate control options, including automatic temperature control features. FordPass Connect allows you to sync your smartphone to the vehicle. FordPass Connect also provides a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
Safety Features
The 2022 Explorer comes with Ford's Co-Pilot 360 safety system, which includes adaptive cruise control, which adjusts cruise control settings based on the speed of other nearby vehicles. The system also includes lane-centering assistance and drift warning, and sign recognition.
